Background:
Parents came to the US to make a better life for themselves in 1901, in 1905 Jasper was born and when they had arrived they wanted to sound more American so they changed their last name Svanbäck to Sidrolf. (After two friends that they had met on the boat on the way here). They had a modest home with just enough to get them by and it was sufficient. The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911 killed both of his parents, leaving him orphaned and unable to afford what had been his home. He became nomadic on the streets finding odd jobs here and there until he became a shoe polisher. He established great rapport with those on the busiest of streets and a Gentleman by the name of Charles Edward Russell convinced him to come work for the paper and start delivering it to the masses. Some days he’d have to deliver the paper to important officials and the first day it was decided that he would, Charles had him fitted and gifted him his only suit. at the age of 15. Now it’s 1921….
